So what would cause this? (Supposed to be a fairly new belt with only about 40k on it)

It appears the the timing belt guard over the crank is not adjusted properly.

Ok thanks, I have the motor out and will pull the rest of the cover off to look.

So I haven't pulled the front cover off, but I have pulled both of the inspection covers.

The timing belt up at the top is tight, but near the bottom is fairly loose (it will deflect a good 1/2 inch). Is this normal? Or am I going to need tensioners too?
