Tow Vehicles include WRX Wagon???
11/14/2 at 14:20:39
Can a WRX Wagon (5sp) be used as a tow vehicle for a 3000lb rally car?
And as an aside - why do Automatics typically have higher towing capacities??
A buddy has a WRX wagon and might be my serivce guy for Pines - we wonder if we can safely tow the car home on a trailer if we break. (I will drive the car up to be safe)

Check the towing capacity of the car.
Remember you have to add the weight of the trailer too!
I seriously doubt that you'd want to use the Subaru, and certainly not for long distances.

The scooby probably isn't the best option as a tow vehicle...not for that sort of weight.
You need to buy Erik's explorer!!

Too late. It's sold.
I'll have my own tow vehicle as of Tuesday.

Prob too light. Also beware turbos as tow vehicles, with the exception of large turbo diesels - the extra load will have the turbo spinning all the time.

Ha Ha,
I used a Legacy wagon to tow all over the last two years.
'93 5sp 2.2 went to Oregon/LA and back to Buffalo, 7500 miles.
It returned home w/ 240,000 miles on it.
Burnt up an r-inner CV boot so I made a heat shield.
I recommend this to protect from the cat.converter and also a button clutch disk for stop and go towing.
Rear springs are forrester with koni bump rubbers.
Don't tailgate!
Get the tongue weight right.
Don't learn to tow using this car, it is a handful, right Shindle?

Yes, but you're Mad!
(...also Bad and Dangerous to Know).
Love,
ACP.
PS everyone Randy has also been driving like a million years and about a zillion competition miles and a (insert pinky in corner of mouth) TRILLION towing miles. I think it is possible to tow with a Legacy. But I think that you have to be very very smart to do it reliably. A.
