FOREST RALLY SUPPORTS FOOD PANTRY AND YOUTH CENTRE

On May 2, the Motorsport Club of Ottawa held its seventh annual Lanark Highlands Forest Rally (LHFR), using parts of Lavant Mill and Umpherson’s Mill roads. Rally HQ was at the MERA Schoolhouse in McDonald’s Corners. In addition to providing free entertainment for spectators, the rally supported the Lanark Highlands Food Pantry and the Lanark Highlands Youth Centre.

Rally representative Jean MacGillivray of Rosetta presented Kerri Way, member of the Board of Directors of the Lanark Highlands Food Pantry, with cheques totalling $800. Rally participants generously donated many non-perishable items, which coordinator Diane Campbell estimated as being “at least eight [large] banana boxes full of food.”

Jean presented Michelle Deforge, Youth Program Developer of the Lanark Highlands Youth Centre, with a cheque for $150. The youth group, wearing red LHFR t-shirts provided by a sponsor, hosted their popular barbeque at Rally HQ. They earned an additional $350 by making lunches for workers out on the stage roads.  

The Lanark Highlands Forest Rally organizing team has supported the township since the event first ran in 2009. This year’s organizer, Jim Morrow (Jean’s husband), said, “Jeannie and I really appreciate our Rally friends’ continuing support for the people in our community.”
