FS: Slightly used Lada Rally Car
08/22/12 at 13:23:58

If you think you’ve seen this car before but you’re not sure if it’s the same Lada rally car: It is.

Past History: Built by Lada Canada in 1993 from a fuel injected 1.5L 1991 Lada Samara. That makes it a factory built rally car, a historic rally car, and darned tough. Want more? ACP owned it, along with a lot of other cool people. It’s been in almost continuous rallies since 1994 and currently races in Production Sport, which we have won the past two years with it.

Recent History:  We bought it to compete in 2010 and since we’ve owned it we ran Galway three times, Lanark, Black Bear and Tall Pines twice, and Peirce Neige once. We had one mechanical DNF. We won Production Sport in 2010 and 2011; we also came second in Classic in 2011 and have multiple Top-10 finishes in individual rallies. That’s because it finishes, which is way more fun than not finising.

We also bashed up the front fender but hey, it IS a rally car. We can share our ‘to do’ work list if you’re interested.

Why we’re selling it: We want to go faster, so we bought an Eagle Talon TSi AWD to build into a car for 2013.

Why you should buy it: It’s a great car to learn to rally on – reliable (did we mention one mechanical DNF in the last 3 years of rally?), forgiving handling yet fast enough to get air. It’s inexpensive to buy and comes with spares, plus contacts for more spares, plus a manual. And people love it. Hell, we love it, but after 3 years we want to go faster. Plus you could start the Canadian Rally Museum with it.

What you get:

-  1991 Lada Samara rally car and sundry spares (lots of mechanical, some bodywork, set of 6 winter tires, set of 4 ice tires, 2 sets of 6 Yokohama gravel tires (one set mostly worn, maybe cut to use for mud/sand, one set 25% used) and something like 20 alloy rims (need to go count them) and 4 steel rims

-  Light bar (need one new Hella), rally computer, Terraphone intercom and headset. Not the Peltor intercom; we need that.
-  FIA legal seats (Sparco and SABELT ) and belts (Beltnick)
-  Hot Bits suspension (rears rebuilt this year)
-  CARS logbook
-  Fire extinguishers, spill kit, and everything you need in a car to race at Pines.
-  A community of support. Most people you meet have driven or navigated – or owned, sometimes more than once – this car. We know how to fix it. Jonathan knows how to fix it. We can point you to others including forums, parts sources, and documentation.

Since we bought it we have:

- upgraded the computer to a Terra Trip 303
- added a roof vent
- replaced the brake booster
- replaced the rear sub-frame
- replaced the ignition wires with custom built
- replaced the fuel pump
- replaced the alternator and belt
- replaced the battery
- replaced the half-shafts
- fish plated the drivers side front sub-frame and re-enforced the shock towers
- had the transmission rebuilt (last year / 3 races ago)
- had the rear shocks rebuilt (this year / 2 races ago)
- installed a new navigator seat
- installed both sets of belts (belts expire 2015)
- re-wired the a good portion of the car including LED rear lights, new dash controls,    and a push button start (!)
- added a quick release rear skid plate and modified the front to be quick release also

Yes, you read this right: for one low price you can pick up a complete, turn-key rally car. Get a helmet, Hans and some race suits and you’re ready to race at Tall Pines!

If you do not try that hard you can find pictures of the all over the place but here is one for the lazy folks (and it makes us look sporty)...

Thanks to Peter Mac for that one.

Ok so I forgot an important part... for all this goodness we are asking for $3500...

Bump this puppy again...

Good time to get this car... we are have been petitioning CARS for an additional class in the the current changes... we are in serious talk to have a Historic Eastern Bloc 1wd sub 80hp class for next year!  You can be highly competitive against the other Lada's, Skoda's, Url's and Ugo's out their...
