Can someone tell me the technique on how to execute  the hairpin slide?   Im talking about the clips I see on Speed or TSN wherein a car (usually a wrx) smoothly glides through a severe hairpin curve and the nose of the car does not go wide (pivots) in the turn.  
And what the heck is heel and toe?   TIA

To my understanding, the way to execute that nice hairpin is to have a brake regulation control in the cockpit between front and back.  But mainly these are done with a hand brake.  Mind you the transmission is designed that once the handbrake is pulled the central diff provides power to the front wheels and letting the back be locked up and once its released all 4 wheels get power.
As to toe and heel, its when you using your 1 foot on both pedals, to keep the gas constantly on.  Or if you prefer brake with your heel and press the gas with your toes as you engage the clutch
Hope this clarifies things a bit.

Basically, in heel toe you are trying to match the rpm of the new gear you are downshifting to in order to be able to drop the clutch without having to ride it to build up the engine revs.  which allows for quicker, more efficient downchanging with more engine braking.   I'm not very good at explaining myself, but  all it really takes is while braking with your right foot, depress the clutch with and 'blip' the throttle right your right foot at the same time you are braking.  This allows you to brake and downshift at the same time.  the 'blip' is where you will be trying to match the engine speeds.  It just takes a bit of practice....hope i helped a bit at least

Don't forget that the WRC guys (and many priveteers) are running hydraulic hand brakes that allow instant and substantial braking forced to be applied. COuple that with a "smart" central dif and you have a pretty tidy 180.

Arh the hairpin slide.. well it depends on how tight the entry / exit into the hairpin is.

If the entry is fairly wide, as I run a RWD mk escort I generally pitch the car into the classic scandinavian flick.. but again this depends on the tighness of the exit etc..  

Approaching the hairpin I am usualy heal and toe it dropping down the gears, pitch the car side ways slightly , give a tug on the hydraulic handbrake and flat on the gas... whilst pointing the steering or trying to point the wheels to where I want to go....  

As has been stated above, it is quite hard to actually exlpain how to do it as it can depend on so many factors...  it's easier to show someone..
