Competitor Guidelines

EMERGENCY CONTACTS

The rally will be controlled by ham radio on 147.285+ frequency.

During most of the event officials may be reached at the M & M ESSO on Hwy. 62 S in Bancroft – phone 613-332-5474. You may also try to contact Ross Wood directly – cell phone 647-224-1492.

In the event of an emergency police and ambulance may be contacted by calling 911.

If you are withdrawing from the event during the event for any reason please advise marshals at a checkpoint and ask them to relay the message to HQ or contact event officials by phone.

SAFETY

Remember at all times that you are driving on public roads, which are open to regular traffic, snowmobiles etc. If you go off the road or stop on route for any reason, immediately set up a triangle on the same side of the road as you are off so that the next competing vehicle does not end up occupying your rear seat. There is a minimum of a ten minute penalty for not doing so.

TRIANGLE CHECK

Every team must carry a minimum of 1 triangle (not flares). Officials will check for triangles at Control #1. No timing sticker will be issued until it is presented.

N.B. There will be no time allowance for this procedure.

A random check may be done at any other point in the rally.

Failure to have a triangle will result in exclusion from the rally.

SWEEP VEHICLES

4 x 4 Closing and Sweep vehicles will clear the route after the last competing cars. They will:

(a) extricate cars from snowbanks for the nominal fee of $10.00
(b) arrange for further assistance if required
(c) ferry competitors to civilization if required

TOW TRUCKS

If our Sweep Vehicles are unable to remove you from a snowbank or ditch, we have arranged for tow trucks to be on call. In most situations, rally officials should be able to contact them through the radio system, however if not, it might be wise for competitors to note this number:

Brinklow’s Towing (Bancroft) 613-332-3308 or 332-1163

GAS

We strongly urge you to fill up with gas at Wood’s Gas Bar in Coe Hill before you start and at each official gas stop, which is the M & M ESSO on Hwy. 62 S in Bancroft. Don't count on finding ANY OTHER stations open.

LEGS

This rally is divided into 3 Legs. Maximum permitted lateness will be 30 minutes (note the change) per Leg (60 minutes at the Finish). If you get seriously behind time, go to a Recovery Point or to the end of the Leg and get back in the rally, using Car "0" time as a guide.

ROUTE INSTRUCTIONS

- all instructions will be in distances & turns in kilometres (conversion = 1 km. = 0.6214 miles or 1 mile = 1.6093 km.)

example -

0.00 STOP TEE L onto Lansdowne Ave.
2.79 BEAR R onto Hwy. 7 West
4.44 SA at flashing traffic signal
10.15 STOP L at flashing red light

N.B. We have given some cautions in the routebook. DO NOT take this to mean that there are no "gotcha's". You are DRIVING YOUR OWN ROADS. Be careful.

CONTROL PR0CEDURE

You will NOT receive advance notice of control locations along the route. They can be anywhere.

All controls will be identified by a MAPLE LEAF RALLY CLUB board by the checkpoint vehicle, facing oncoming rally traffic. All checkpoint vehicles will be placed on the right hand side of the road.

Upon arriving at a control, slow down, dim bright lights, PULL PAST the checkpoint vehicle and safely off the road on the right. Your time will be recorded when your front bumper reaches the control car. If in the judgement of the marshals you cease to move as you approach, your time will be recorded when the marshal can no longer detect movement.

DRIVE CAUTIOUSLY near controls. Take your route card back to the marshals to receive your sticker. Remember that you must NOT REVERSE in the control zone.

If more than one team is present in the control zone, it is the competitors' responsibility to present themselves to the marshal in the correct order of arrival.

After you have received your sticker and returned to your vehicle, pull ahead a few car lengths to make room for other cars arriving.

CONTROL TIMING

Controls timed to the whole minute will be placed at the top of the minute (00 seconds). No penalty will be assessed from 00 seconds to 59 seconds of the correct minute.

Controls timed to the 1/10th of a minute can be set at any 1/10th of a minute i.e. 6, 12, 18 seconds etc. No penalty will be assessed from 00 seconds to 05 seconds late. 0.1 penalty will be assessed for every 6 seconds early or late otherwise.

At whole minute controls, competitors will normally be set off again (Time Out) at the start of the next whole minute e.g. Time In at 8:41:19, Time Out at 8:42:00.

At controls timed to the 1/10th minute, competitors will normally be set off again at the top of the second minute e.g Time In at 8:41:39, Time Out at 8:43:00.

Notice will be given prior to the start of any Leg of any controls will may be timed to the 1/10th minute.

At Route controls no time is recorded but one minute is allowed in timing calculations.

TIE BREAKERS

Ties will be broken as follows:

1. Most "0" penalties at controls

2. Most consecutive "0" penalties at controls

3. Most 1 point penalties at controls etc.

4. Scoring whole minute controls as 1/10th minute controls starting with Control #1.

AWARDS

Awards will be presented on Sunday morning at the Limerick Community Centre at the completion of scoring.

You must be present to qualify for special awards.

PARKING

At the gas stop we advise you to check in first, then park your car in a manner that does not block other cars.

DRIVERS’ MEETING

All competitors should attend the Drivers’ Meeting – at 9:35 P.M.

STARTING ORDER and PROCEDURE

All pre-registered cars will start in the order of the printed Starting Order list. Others will be added to the list in the order of registration.

Each team will receive its Routebook and Routecard a minimum of 10 minutes prior to its official Start Time for Leg A. You may pick them up at the Registration table.

At the Start of the rally, your Start Time will correspond to your Car #. Thus Car 1 will depart at 10:01 etc. It is your responsibility to leave at the correct time.

QUIET ZONES

At a number of places in the route instructions you will find BQZ (Begin Quiet Zone) and EQZ (End Quiet Zone). These are areas that are sensitive for the OWR and Tall Pines, where it is important to us to maintain a positive relationship with the public. We have changed the Routebook format this year to make those zones very conspicuous in the instructions. Please cooperate. Dim your lights (low beams only) and proceed as quietly as possible, being sure to obey the speeds indicated. Marshals will be observing in Quiet Zones for non-compliance. Minimum penalty will be 5 minutes. If you have broken the Quiet Zone Rules, a marshal may stop you on the spot to advise you and confirm your Car #. No time will be allowed for that.
